WHO: The World Health Organisation

WHO-EN-C-HThe World Health Organisation, WHO, is the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system.  It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.

A representative of the Director General of WHO was one of the signatories to the WFME Constitution when WFME was brought into being in 1972, and the WFME Constitution was formally deposited with WHO in Geneva.  WFME was admitted into official relations with WHO on 30 January 1974, as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), thereby recognising the Federation as the agency representing medical education and medical schools on the world level.

An official collaborative work plan between the two organizations is developed, implemented and reviewed every three years.
