WFME is in official relationship with the World Health Organization. As well as the collaborative global work plan between WFME and WHO, WFME works with WHO regional offices.

The WHO Regional Office for Europe is based in Copenhagen, and is the focus for the collaborative work of WFME and WHO in the European region. This has particularly supported work such as the development of the joint Guidelines for Accreditation.

WFME has provided support for human resource development in medical education in Europe, and for development of accreditation and similar processes.
